A22 toll decision still in limbo

The decison to implement tolls on the A22 expressway in The Algarve is still in limbo. A meeting as held on the 14th June where a 'strategy' was set however we still await the decision with the forecast this will be made soon. usual Portuguese ambiguity Im affraid.

Opposition parties have already prepared an injunction in readiness so my guess is this has some way to run and we wont see the tolls implemented for this Summer season.

The major concern for the Algarve residents in the effect on the Algarve economy which is highly dependent on tourism. With an avergae charge forecast to be 7 euros from Faro to Portimao the N125 looks like it could get busy should these be implemented.

My personal view is the avaerage tourist to The Alagrve would not be put off by an additional 7 euros to be transfered afetr all it is the price of 2 pints of Sagres over a fortnight...peanuts.

Any comments or views would be welcome

Wines of The Algarve - Quick guide

The Algarve only demarcated District in Portugal. The red wines tend to be full-bodied, a fruity rich flavour, low acidity, and containing a high alcohol level. One one of the more famous is the Vida Nova label from a vineyard owned by the famous singer, Sir Cliff Richards. Others worth mentioning are Monte de Casteleja at Lagos, Quinta do Morgado da Torre near Portimão, Quinta dos Vales at Estombar, Adega do Cantor at Guia, Barranco Longo at Algos, and Quinta dos Correias at Luz de Tavira.

 Lagoa (DOC)

This region covers the municipalities of both Albufeira and Lagoa. The soft sandy soil and warm climate provides a rich distinct flavour. The white and red wines of Lagoa are fragrant, light and smooth, redolent of the sunshine of the Algarve. Dry and sweet aperitif wines are also made from local grape varieties. The red and white wines produced are high in alcohol, and are made from the indigenous varieties Crato Branco (Roupeiro), Negra Mole and Periquita (Castelão Francês).

 Lagos (DOC)

This region covers the municipalities of Aljezur, Lagos and Sagres. The red wine is smooth and fruity with low acidity level. The white wine is lemon-straw in colour and tends to be full-bodied.

 Portimão (DOC)

The red and white wines produced are high in alcohol, and are made from the indigenous varieties Crato Branco (Roupeiro), Negra Mole and Periquita (Castelão Francês).
